Honoring our heroes
Honoring our heroes
LE CENTER—Veterans Day, first established as Armistice Day in 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson, and created to honor those who died in the nation’s service. President Dwight D. Eisenhower included the recognition of World War II veterans in 1954.

He stated; “In order to insure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans’ organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hands in the common purpose.”

Now we honor all of our servicemen and women each year on November 11th.

Since its inception, each time America’s freedom and liberty has been tested, our country’s brave men and women have stepped up, defending our country mightily. Those who have fought for us have shared a common goal: “service to a cause greater than self.” Their valor and dignity are shown every day across the globe, while we live our normal lives here at home. There is no price that can be put on their service.

For myself, I’ve learned that our veterans are extremely important to the fabric of America. I have also realized that our veterans won’t be here forever and they deserve to be recognized now while we have the opportunity. Without their efforts, we couldn’t be Americans. Our society uses the term “veteran” too loosely. We must be sure to give those who serve the most respect possible.

Our veterans are treasures for all of us to honor. Without a doubt, they should be held in the highest regard this Veterans Day.
