| Cats sail past Clippers 61-43 |

LE CENTER — The Lady Wildcats got back in the win column with a 61-43 victory over the scrappy Cleveland Clippers in Le Center last Tuesday night. The Wildcats started strong, then fought off a first half Clipper rally before pulling away in the second half.
The Wildcats started strong, led by the play of Brittany Moore and Annie Miller. A baseline jumper by Megan Steffen opened up a 15-7 Wildcat lead eight minutes into the game. The Clippers answered with a 12-4 run, fueled by three point baskets by Emily Dembouski, Emily Dummer and a long trey by Carly McCabe that put the Clippers in front 19-17.
The Wildcats closed out the half on a 13-2 run, including six points from Miller and a pair of baskets by Katrina Christian, to take a 30-21 halftime lead.
“We survived their hot shooting in the first half by playing really hard and hitting the offensive boards,” said head coach Jeremy Biermaier. “We rebounded extremely well tonight. Anytime we get 35 shots to our opponent’s 16 in a half, we are bound to be successful.”
“I was proud of how we hung in there when they grabbed the momentum late in the first half. We ended the half on a 13-2 run sparked by a three quarter court defense we haven’t used to this point. The girls did a nice job of adjusting on the fly to the things I was throwing at them,” added coach Biermaier.
The Wildcats continued to extend their lead in the second half. Miller scored 13 of her game high 24 points in the period. Christian added another 8 points to her game total of 12 and Megan Kelly recorded 8 points, including a pair of three point baskets.
“Annie was stellar again tonight and she just has that confident look about her right now,” said coach Biermaier. “Brittany Moore also played really hard tonight. She was all over the place. Overall, this was a great team effort.”
