School changes come
The school board made some tough decisions last week — ones that had to be made.

The good news at the meeting was the addition of a CIS Math course and that next year’s 4th graders will be in three sections.

Parents of current third graders have been attending the school board meetings and voicing their concerns of having 30-plus students per room next year. The board heard their concerns and along with co-superintendents Deb Dwyer and Matt Helgerson decided to have three sections of fourth grade next year.

At the same meeting the board voted to drop all-day-everyday kindergarten. Next year’s kindergarten students will be attending all-day every-other day. This schedule will allow between 11 and 15 students per classroom which is very manageable. How these days will be divided out has not been decided upon yet.

The board was also told by Dwyer and Helgerson the district will be placing an operating levy on the ballot for the November elections. They were also told of an upcoming meeting with the Montgomery-Lonsdale school district to see how the two districts could help each other out. A core group including both Superintendents, board chair Denny Lang, Finance: Director District Office, Vicki Lyndgaard, Grounds and Maintenance Director John ‘Dude’ Fredrickson, District Technology Coordinator District Office, Carl Menk. This meeting was held Wednesday, April 14 and the board will hear the outcome of that meeting tonight at 6 p.m. (Wed. 4/21) at a special meeting.

Up this week is the American Legion’s steak Fry on Saturday. St. Mary’s confirmation students will have a sending Mass on Sunday. They will be confirmed in Faribault on May 6.
