Folks in restaurants deserve some praise
What a conversation starter.

Word circulated that Minnesota governor candidate Tom Emmer would favor cutting service workers’ wages if he were elected to that high office.

Well, there might be more to the story from Mr. Emmer. The Democrats have sure come out in force to put the spotlight on such a proposal.

Let’s talk about servers. Let’s have a conversation.

Are servers getting rich as it is? Can they afford to a wage decrease? Are we showing them that we care about them?

Waitresses and waiters make the restaurant better. At some point or another, nearly everyone visits a restaurant to dine and chat with family and friends.

Servers work hard. Let’s face it, employees in food service in general are not being paid Donald Trump-level money. Yes, they make tips, but those are already factored into the overall compensation picture. Servers deserve to make an honest living.

Just talking here, just shooting the breeze, are there folks out there who think waitresses and waiters are overpaid? It seems like they make a fair wage and could stand even to make a few more bucks in a month.

When the DJ announces, “Don’t forget to tip your servers and your bartenders,” that is for good reason. Tips make the system work. Tip generously.

Servers, like other pieces of the economy puzzle, are constantly channeling money back into the community where it can circulate and help.

Instead of knocking down the wages of servers, how about we start using some common sense. Maybe the dear candidate would like to work for less. I don't believe in cutting anyone's wages..except for professional sports players and other who make MILLIONS to work for only a portion of a year. And how about executives who make hundreds of thousands..when their assistants are answering the phones. How about doctors who make HUGE money, who spend 10 minutes with a patient, and hours on the golf course.
Maybe we should cut some of those wages/salaries instead of cutting wages of restaurant servers or other service ( grunt) labor jobs. Why do we always make the lives of hard working folks harder?
