Screwdriver is key to forklift mischief
LE CENTER – In the late hours of the evening on July 17 the Le Center Police Department was dispatched to the area behind the Hardware Hank store for a report of a horn sounding in a forklift. The responding officer determined someone had attempted to turn the forklift’s ignition with a screwdriver. The officer used the screwdriver to turn the ignition back.

The department backed up a number of other incidents that week.

July 16

• At 2:23 p.m. police received a report of a dog at large in the area of  E. Lanesburg St. and Park Ave. The dog’s owner was contacted and warned of the city’s licensing ordinance. The same dog was reported loose on July 18.

• Dispatch advised police at 7:40 p.m. 911 hang-ups were occurring from the pay phone in front of the Frontier Communications building. A juvenile was observed running from the area.

July 17

• At 9:15 a.m. police learned of the theft of solar driveway markers from a residence on the 300 block of N. Cordova Ave. There are no suspects in the incident which remains under investigation.

• An officer responded to a report of a dog at large on the 300 block of S. Montgomery Ave. The dog was a female German short hair with a collar but no tags. She was taken to the kennel for boarding.

• At 10:23 p.m. police received a report of a motorcycle which had been damaged while parked at 300 W. Lanesburg St. An anonymous witness stated the damage was caused by a truck. The owner of the truck was located and the parties involved will resolve repairs between themselves.



July 18

• Police received a report of vandalism to a vehicle on Kilkenny Ave. Profanity and deep gouges were found on the side of a Chevrolet pickup. Police have a suspect in the incident.

• At 4:40 p.m. the department was notified of a collision behind the municipal pool area. The complainant stated his parked vehicle was struck by a trailer which was being backed up. It appeared the trailer rubbed across the vehicle’s rear bumper, tearing off the rear license plate. Insurance information was exchanged between the two parties.

July 20

• A male dog was taken to the kennel for boarding at 8:45 a.m. The dog was picked up on State Highway 99 and did not have a collar or identification.

• A citation was issued to a vehicle parked in the wrong direction on W. Bradshaw St.

• A complainant notified police she purchased a computer on-line and it quit working. The computer was under warranty and she sent it back. Since Jan. 15 the computer has not been returned and phone calls have not been returned.

July 22

• Police were informed someone had run over a fence on the 300 block of E. Sharon St. The responding officer determined someone had cut a turn into or out of the alley and damaged the fence. The incident is under investigation.

July 23

• At 12:04 a.m. police were informed a wallet was taken from the top of the bar at the VFW club. The complainant was unsure who may have taken it.

• An officer responded to a report of the theft of gasoline taken from a bulk tank at Max Johnson Trucking sometime overnight. The incident is under investigation.
